Waterford Animal Welfare, founded by Andrew Quinn in 2007, is a non-profit group dedicated to the lifetime care of abused and neglected animals, with the overriding ethos of protecting all animals from exploitation and harm.
Being heavily involved in the local community, whose support is unending, we provide vital help to animals in need and services to local authorities, the public and pet owners across Munster and South Leinster. Our core services include a 24/7 Emergency Rescue, Animal rescue (including rehabilitation & re-releasing), Public Advice Service, Adopting Services, Community Support, Volunteering, Animal Welfare Training, Education and Awareness work. We do not sell any of the animals rescued and they are not used for breeding; we simply protect them from harm. We will under no circumstances assist a facility or individual that chooses to perpetuate any problems causing animals to suffer needlessly.
Over the years, the team has grown into a circle of trained and dedicated volunteers who are heavily involved in the day to day; rescues, animal care and fostering of animals until they can be rehomed. Until September 2017, The Shelter, on Tramore Road Co. Waterford, was our safe and comfortable home for rescued dogs and horses while they were being rehabilitated. In September 2016, the group incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee, and in May 2018 the Company applied for and achieved Registered Charity status (Registered Charity Number: 20159801). Waterford Animal Welfare received €32,000 of animal welfare funding in 2025 from the Department of Agriculture Food and Marine.
